Looking for a high quality folder knife without the high price. This Benchmade knife, part of the Heckler and Koch line, is built with a solid AUS8 reverse tanto blade. AUS8 as defined on the Benchmade site is, "A Japanese made medium-carbon, high chromium stainless steel, which offers a good balance of toughness, edge sharpness and corrosion resistance." I have carried a couple of knives with AUS8 steel on them and can tell you that they have performed very well for me. The steel is fairly easy to field sharpen and will hold a good edge. The reverse tanto blade shape gives the knife more durability and strength than you normally get with a drop point or clip point knife, which means that the tip is much less likely to break. You can actually get this knife with a plain edge or a combo edge--this really makes a difference depending on your intended use. If you are looking to cut a lot of straps, rope, and string then you will most likely be more satisifed with the combo edge. The handle on the Enigma is reinforced nylon. This is incredibly durable material that gives you a nice grip. The other thing I like about reinforced nylon is that it is lightweight. The Enigma weighs in at just a paltry 2.64 ounces. Perfect for pocket carry. And on that note, you can switch the pocket clip from one side to the other depending on your preferred pocket. The knife locks open with a rolling lock. It slides in a small groove and locks the blade open as soon as you open it fully. To release, just pull the slide and the blade can then be closed. I like this form of positive lock because it gives more strength to the open knife and makes it unlikely that the blade will close down on my hand during heavy use. If you are looking for a lightweight, mid sized pocket knife for daily carry and use, the Benchmade H&K Enigma is a perfect choice.
