Description
The Boker Kalashnikov automatic knife is one of the most popular side open automatics on the market today considering the price point. This knife, as well as the rest of the Kalashnikov auto family, is referred to an auto-conversion knife which means the knife is produced as a folder knife and then converted via third party to offer the automatic function. The mini Kalashnikov, which is slightly smaller than its full sized predecessor, features an aluminum handle scale with integrated finger grooves for a comfortable ergonomic experience and our exclusive to BladeOps model now features CPM-S30V blade material for unprecedented edge retention and strength.. This particular model features a black handle with standard hardware and a drop point blade in a satin finish. Finally, the deep carry pocket clip is designed for tip up carry only.

Why S30V?

 

"CPM S30V is a martensitic (hardened) powder-made (sintered) wear and corrosion resistant stainless steel developed by Dick Barber of Crucible Industries in collaboration with knifemaker Chris Reeve. Its chemistry promotes the formation and even distribution of vanadium carbides which are harder and more effective at cutting than chromium carbides. These vanadium carbides give the steel a very refined grain, further improving the sharpness and toughness. . . . Its composition is as follows: Carbon 1.45%, Chromium 14.00%, Vanadium 4.00%, Molebdenum 2.00%"

    It's better than average for a budget auto. Mostly good material, and we'll constructed. The only knock is that instead of anodized aluminum for the handle, they use a cheaper painted aluminum, that'll show wear quickly. Still, it's worth the price.

    For the money, it's a good knife. A painted aluminum handle is the only downside, as it'll eventually wear out, but the blade, action, and clip are all first rate. If you're on a really tight budget or you want a knife that you can afford to lose or break, this is a great choice.

    I purchased the mini kalishnakov in S30v because I wanted to have it along with my std kalishnakov and strike in S30v. The mini is a pretty cool knife, but really to small as an EDC. Great for the change pocket on your jeans as a mail opener, small box opener. Having the finger grooves is a bit silly, as it is not really big enough to grip like the std size kalishnakov. But I do like this little knife anyway. Look forward to the Boker knives in S30v that is exclusive to BladeOps

    I received my new knife in an opened box. It was about as sharp as a butter knife and the blade didn't fully open when actuated. Once sharpened and lubricated it appears to be a decent knife.
