This is a fairly good and extremely compact sharpener. It serves more to keep a relatively well sharpened blade in condition. You can sharpen a very dull blade with it, but it will take a lot of work. I rate it a 9 out of 10. It is really nice because you don't have to worry about setting angles or mixing something up. Simple, compact, and light.

Chances are you've heard it said "a sharp knife is safer than a dull one". We believe this quote originated from first hand experience and find it to be true. The Sharpmaker was Spyderco's first product, which we made and sold before getting into the knife business. It's true -- First we made things sharp, then we made sharp things.
The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker (204MF) includes two sets of high alumina ceramic stones: A pair of medium-grit (brown) stones for aggressive sharpening and a set of fine (white) stones for professional grade finishing. The stones are triangular for sharpening Plainedges on the flat sides and SpyderEdges (serrations) on the corners. A furrow running the length of each stone lets you sharpen pointed items like fishhooks, darts and awls. Included is a set of brass safety rods protecting the users hands while sharpening. All components snap into the self-contained ABS plastic base and lid -- ready to travel with you. Die-cut into the base are keyed slots and holes fitted for the stones. They accurately set the stone's sharpening angle at a 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) for knives and a 12.5° scissor setting. Turn the base over, a channel lets you lay two stones side-by-side (flat-side up) for use as a benchstone. The lid snaps halfway over the base creating a handhold for stability while you're sharpening. Included is a set of brass safety rods to protect the users hands while sharpening. Ceramic stones, like glass, will break if dropped -- handle carefully. Use them dry, without oil, water or lubricants. To clean: scrub stones with a plastic scouring pad and powered abrasive cleaner, let air-dry. Also autoclave safe. System comes with instruction book and DVD.

After many years in the knife industry, Steve McCowen of Iola, Wisconsin, had seen literally hundreds of knife sharpening systems, ranging from stones to expensive electric hones. The simpler devices required a good deal of skill, the more advanced systems came with mounting hardware and pages of instructions, and the electric sharpeners could grind the edge of a favorite knife to nothing in a few seconds.
Steve came up the idea for the Slide Sharp™ and contacted Charles Kain, a custom knifemaker in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together they developed the breakthrough, patented* product you see here.
The Slide Sharp uses a unique system of injection-molded nylon guides to hold the knife edge at the specific angle required for optimum sharpening. A hardwood base holds a porcelain sharpening rod. Simply insert the rod in the base, slide a return spring over it, select the sharpening guide needed for your knife, and slide on the cap.
Sharpening action couldn’t be easier. Just pull your blade through a sharpening guide slot, pressing down lightly. The return spring pops the guide up again for the next stroke. You then repeat the same action as needed in the opposite slot, sharpening both sides of the blade equally, or as needed.
Two sharpening guides are included. One is a slight angle for putting an edge on sport, work, tactical and kitchen knives. The second has a steeper angle for heavier tools such as choppers and machetes.
The Slide Sharp system comes with two porcelain sharpening rods. You start with the coarser gray rod, and finish the edge with the fine white rod.
That’s the Slide Sharp story. It’s simple to use, quick and convenient. It is as easy to use as a butcher’s steel, with the accuracy of the more expensive and time-consuming clamped sharpeners.
The sharpening guides maintain the edge angle and do the work for you. There’s no guessing, no rounded edges, and no loss of blade shape from oversharpening.
If you can sharpen a pencil, you can sharpen a knife. And Slide Sharp is inexpensive and portable, which means you can have one for the kitchen, one for the tool bench, one for your tackle box, even one for your favorite firearms case.

Kershaw's Ultra-Tek Blade Sharpener is the perfect little tool for honing your knives. You can carry it out in the field with you to get that extra sharp edge back on your blade. The sharpening end of this tool unscrews from the handle and then can be screwed back on with the sharpener inside the handle. Makes it really small and convenient for taking on the road, camping, or wherever else you may go. Definitely not the tool for setting blade angles or doing a full resharpen, the Ultra-Tek does a great job of honing your blade after the edge is not quite as sharp as you like it. This sharpener is easy to hold and easy to use.
