My first impression is that this knife is much bigger and beefier than I expected—which is a good thing. The handles are comfortable and the pattern in the middle of the handle gives you an amazing grip. The blade is very wide and plenty thick—making it perfect for heavy duty cutting in adverse conditions.

Upon further use here are the things that are great about the knife. The handle shape is extremely comfortable even during long periods of use. The back and forth pattern is unbelievably “sticky”—meaning it provides an incredible amount of grip. You can use this in the water and it doesn’t feel like it is going to slip out of your hands. I especially like the AXIS locking system. It is dependable and sturdy. The handle flares out just above where your forefinger sits and provides a bit of a blade guard making the knife even more safe.

The combo edge blade is incredibly wide making it perfect for heavy duty cutting. The Skandi grind gives you maximum control over depth of cuts; especially on low angle cuts. The thick blade also lends itself to heavy cutting. The N680 blade steel is a chromium-molybdenum mix along with vanadium and nitrogen which makes for excellent corrosion resistance, especially around salt water. It also has high wear resistance.

Overall I think this is one of the best knives you can find for all purpose work around water. You can pick it up with a plain edge blade if you prefer--which is perfect if you don't cut lots of rope. Also available are both blade variations with yellow handle scales.
