Benchmade 477 Osborne Emissary 3.5

The Benchmade 477 Osbrone Emissary 3.5 boasts the AXIS®-Assist locking mechanism as well as a slide safety. This newest version of the extremely popular Benchmade Emissary knife also has a modified drop point blade of CPM-S30V premium stainless steel as well as CNC machined billet aluminum handles with a reversible deep carry tip up pocket clip. With so much going for it, the Emissary 3.5 is sure to quickly become your favorite carry knife.

BLADE

The 3.45” modified drop point blade features dual thumb studs for easy assist open. Just a slight flick of the studs and the assist system snaps the blade out with authority. Of course, since the knife uses the AXIS system, the blade, once open, is extremely secure. To back this up even more, there is a slide safety on the spine. This is the biggest change from the previous Emissary. The slide safety is very smooth. Sandwiched between partial liners, it is easy to activate with your thumb and clicks into place for an extra secure blade—open or closed.

The S30V premiums stainless steel is certain to give you everything you need in a blade. It rates high for edge retention as well as corrosion resistance. It also has very high strength ratings—which means you are going to have a blade that is sharp, keeps and edge, and is durable enough to deal with cuts in the real world.

HANDLE

The black aluminum handle is a CNC machined billet. The handle has one deep finger groove for your forefinger as well as a secondary, longer finger groove that accommodates both your middle and ring fingers. The edge where your fingers grasp has a very nice bevel that makes for a comfortable grip even when making heavy cuts or using the knife for a long time. There is a right/left reversible tip up pocket clip. The handle is .42” thick, which for me feels like the perfect size knife. The knife weighs 3.95 ounces, which means it isn’t going to be a brick in your pocket. This is the kind of knife that will look good in the board room, the warehouse, or wherever life takes you.

AXIS Assist

One of my favorite things about this knife is the AXIS®-Assist mechanism. There is a small bar that comes through on both sides of the handle. This ambidextrous bar allows you to release the blade when it is open by pulling back on the bar with either your finger, your thumb or both. The blade can then be closed manually. This is one of my favorite systems currently on the market. It is extremely solid, easy to use, and even looks great.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

This is an absolutely fantastic assist knife. Built here in the USA, this high quality assist knife is the kind of knife that will last generations. A subdued, minimalist look belies the serious strength and quality that the Benchmade Emissary 3.5 puts in your hand. If you need an everyday carry knife and you demand the very best, consider this knife. It is the kind of investment that pays for itself many times over.
