Comparable to the Boker Mini Kalashnikov 73BT Auto Knife, Tanto Black Blade

To help shed some light on how this knife compares with others, here is a comparison with the popular Boker Mini Kalashnikov 73BT:

From the table, it is plain to see that the Schrade 60 MCT is slightly bigger than the Boker Mini Kalashnikov 73BT. This is a good thing, especially for those with larger hands. Both knives are the mini version of its larger counterpart. However, the Schrade 60 MCT is a perfect size. It isn’t too small that it is awkward to hold, and it isn’t too large that it takes up a lot of room in the pocket.

Some extra features that the Schrade 60 MCT includes that the Boker Mini Kalashnikov 73BT does not include the glass breaker as well as the slide safety.

Like it was mentioned before, the knife is a decently sized knife for everyday uses.

Pocket Real-Estate

Because of its size, the Schrade 60 MCT fits well in most pockets with room still available for cell phones, keys, wallets, etc. With its specially designed pocket clip, the knife isn’t going anywhere on its own. The deep pocket clip prevents the knife from easily falling out on its own. And where the clip is positioned on the knife, it allows for a normal tip-up carry which is more natural for most people.

With the Schrade 60 MCT being a more urban style of knife, the pocket clip also sticks to this concrete jungle theme. This clip provides a discrete look when in the pocket. Besides its camouflage finish, the knife blends into the pocket and is hardly noticeable. Many users find this to be a favorable characteristic because of how little attention it brings to the wearer. People tend to feel more uncomfortable if there is a knife visible rather than when one is not.

Blade Style

The Tanto blade style on the Schrade 60 MCT is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The Tanto style has a deep, rich history that goes back hundreds of years. Originating in Japan, the Tanto blade has been used as a way for penetration. During the 80’s Cold Steel Americanized the Tanto to make into what it is today. In theory, the American Tanto provides a stronger tip for the blade.

Aesthetically, the Tanto blade has a different look and feel than a traditional drop point. The feelings of power, fierceness, and strength come to mind when holding this type of blade. Knowing that this type of blade was used for defense and protection anciently adds feelings of security when wielding this magnificent blade.

Steel Used

The steel used in the Schrade 60 MCT makes it a durable companion for every day carry. It utilizes 4116 Stainless Steel. This steel is a fine grained steel made originally for the medical industry. Because of this, the steel has a high corrosion resistance. Along with being corrosion resistant, the steel strength is impeccable and is capable of holding an edge. The edge retention is comparable to that of 440C Stainless Steel. But because of its purpose in the medical field, it is more capable of resisting corrosion. This steel has also seen an increased usage in food preparation. With this said, if a restaurant ever runs out of plastic knives to use, the Schrade 60 MCT is there to cover you.

Glass Breaker

Many knives, especially in the mini class, do not include a glass breaker. This sets this knife apart from many others to make it unique. It is just another tool in your pocket for your convenience. While it may not be used every day, like the blade, there are emergencies that arise that need this feature. Situations such as: helping someone trapped in a car, a fire in a home or office building, or escaping from a locked vehicle, would benefit from a glass breaker. Some argue that the blade will suffice in breaking glass. This isn’t always the case. Glass breakers are thick, and pack a punch to penetrate the glass.

Locking and Safety Mechanism

Another unique part of the Schrade 60 MCT is its locking and safety mechanisms. Like many automatic knives, the Schrade 60 MCT includes the plunge lock. This lock keeps the blade closed until the button on the handle is pressed, then the knife flings open. What sets the knife apart from other knives that are similar is the safety feature on the back of the knife. The slide safety prevents the knife from firing off on its own, or when the button is accidentally pressed.

The slide safety is not only a great addition to the functionality of the knife, but it is in a different and more ergonomic position. Located on the back of the handle, the slide safety allows the user to easily flip it to the “on” or “off” position with a flick of the index finger while the thumb can press the plunge lock on the front. This lets the knife be released quickly and more efficiently.

Talk the Talk, and Walk the Walk

Much has been said about the Schrade 60 MCT, and yes it can walk the walk. Aside from being an excellent knife for its price and quality, it has a nice snapping sound and smooth action as it opens and closes. With little to no blade play, the knife is impressive to open. With how quick the knife opens, it is ready in a split second for immediate use. With the sharp confirming click, you know the knife is locked and ready for come cutting.

Easy to Maintain

Because of the simplicity of the Schrade 60 MCT, it is a favorable knife if it is going to be used a lot. There are not many parts to the knife, which make it easy to take apart, clean, repair, and sharpen. Beginning knife modifiers may take a liking to the blade as well due to its simple design. The knife also serves as a great beginner’s knife. It can take a beating and is simple to take care of. An occasional cleaning and tightening of screws will help make the knife last a long time.

Finish Color

At first glance, the Schrade 60 MCT has a different look. Its gray scale camouflage is much different than other camouflages such as traditional, or even digital. It blends in well with the urban life of big cities, concrete, and pavement. For those everyday tactical missions in the office buildings of downtown, people won’t know what hit them. The finish is truly one of a kind. Not a lot of Knives (if any) have this same style of a finish. Others will be jealous of this special camouflage.

Every Day Uses

For Every Day Carry or EDC, the Schrade 60 MCT is good for any situation that comes up during the day. Have a loose string on the suit jacket right before an important meeting? Not a problem. In need for a new letter opener? Schrade has got your back. Besides these silly everyday problems, it is good to carry a knife like the 60 MCT. Your personal safety is important. This knife covers many of your basic needs in case of emergency. Many of its features such as the quick release action, the Tanto blade, and the glass breaker, help you keep a clear mind knowing that you can be protected in many situations.

Left-Handed Users

Many times, left-handed people are left out of the picture; especially when it comes to knives. No need to worry with the Schrade 60 MCT. The knife is mainly designed and shipped out as a right-handed knife, but with a few tweaks, it can be a left handed knife in no time. The clip is attached to the glass breaker at the bottom of the knife. With a wrench or with some pliers this can be loosened up and the clip switched to the other side of the knife. As mentioned before, the typical way to fire off the knife is with the thumb after a release of the safety slide with the index finger. For left handed people, the role of the different fingers switch. The index finger is now the primary source to fire off the knife.
