Description

The Spyderco Manbug series showcases almost identical specs to its counterpart, the Spyderco Ladybug, but provides a broader and thicker blade as well as a wider handle scale for increased control. Like most of Spyderco's popular models, the Manbug comes in many different models with varying handle materials, handle colors, blade finishes, blade variations and finally blade materials. This particular Spyderco Manbug is part of the Spyderco Salt series which was purposely designed to help solve the rusting problem that many users can attest to. The H-1 steel found on this knife is a non-carbon based austenitic steel which means it is not heat treated but, thanks to the small addition of nitrogen, still offers steel-like qualities. This model, the MYLS, features a yellow bidirectionally textured lightweight FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon) handle and a fully serrated (SpyderEdge) satin finished blade. Each model in the Manbug family comes standard with a high strength lock back mechanism, Spyderco's trademark round hole opening feature and, like a true folder knife, this knife does not integrate a pocket clip.

I love the Salt series because they have the look - bright yellow or green handles, with special steels to resist salt corrosion with makes them ideal for close body carry year round! This little doober is much smaller than one expects it to be! Sure the dimensions are there for all to see, but in person, this knife is TINY with a capital TINY! "Bug" is the correct name because the knife is so small it's really too small for the average size 8 grown man's hand, without some dedicated practice manipulating the action. So be aware if you have big thick man hands, with thick man fingers, you might find this to be too small. As to all the other factors...this is a superbly constructed knife and is quite attractive! The tiny, serrated blade rips through various materials without effort, and this does indeed make a good keychain, true emergency carry for when you need to slash through a seatbelt, cord, or rope in a hurry! The mechanical action is fluid and smooth as has been every other Spyderco knife I've purchased.
