Description

The Spyderco Yojimbo 2 is designed by the well known personal-defense trainer Michael Janich. This Wharncliffe style blade and the refined ergonomics of the G10 handle ensure maximum surface contact between the knife and your hand as well as giving you maximum positive control. They also encourage a thumb-forward grip and make the 3-1/4-inch CPM S30V blade a natural extension of the hand. The PlainEdge straight cutting edge of the hollow-ground blade offers extreme cutting performance by transferring power all the way to the tip and ensures improved point strength. Nested stainless steel liners provide structural strength and form the backbone of the knife?s high-strength compression lock mechanism.Textured G-10 scales and a four-position clip guarantee a non-slip grip and rapid deployment from all carry positions. This is my first Spyderco and I’m impressed with it, I’m really thinking about ordering the larger size. This knife has a really smooth action, tight lockup, no blade play at all, the texture on the g10 feels good in your hand. The only thing that would make it better is if it came with a padded case.

Due to the circumstances this is a comparison and a review. I purchased the Yojimbo 2 to compare it with my new Spyderco Canis. I luv the Wharncliffe blades. The Yo2 and the Canis are self defense type knives, with similar looks and feel. Well looks are not everything as we all should know. I originally thought that the Canis was maybe worth the extra $40 plus dollars because of internet reviews, the good looking fancy blade shape, and the carbon fiber handle. So I purchased it from Blade Ops and gave the Canis a 5 Star rating. Everything I stated about the Canis is still basically true. However, I have changed my opinion. It is not a great 5 Star knife. It is still a good knife with a below average, to average balde. I changed my opinion of the Canis when doing some light comparison cutting, slashing, and stabbing of a newspaper, and a thin USPS cardboard box with the two knives. The Taiwan made Canis picked up a small nick in the front of the blade next to the tip. It is small enough that hopefully resharpening the blade should get the small nick out of the blade. Very disappointing for a really new knife, and a expensive knife. Not typical Spyderco quality. I am now wondering about the hardness /Brittleness of the Canis blade vs. the new Yojimbo 2 blade with the same type of steel. The Canis has not been carried very long( still new) and has had no real carry usage, and no abuse. Now in hindsight I wish that I had purchased the Yojimbo 2 first. Then I might not have purchased the higher priced Canis with the Warney type blade. The Yojimbo 2 has a great big , really thick, good looking Warney blade. It is a good fit in my hand even though it is a bit smaller than the Canis. I like it as much if not more than the feel of the Canis in my hand. The Yojimbo 2 Blade is awesome and the fit and finish is just superb for a knife in this price range. I think you would do well to buy the Made in the USA Spyderco Yojimbo 2,at less money and get "More Bang for your Buck" vs. The Canis. IMO for two very similar style knives, the Yojimbo 2 is the better knife, with a great price, compared to the slightly defective blade higher priced Canis. Only Time and use will tell. One Negative: the YO 2 's compression lock has a tendency to pinch the finger next to my thumb when it locks up,due to the cut out in the handle scales. Positive: It has no blade wobble and really locks up tight. I highly recommend the YO 2 vs. the Canis. Note: I can live with the skin pinch, and it can be avoided with opening practice
